The southwest area of Colorado Springs is currently home to only one new home development, but is generally more mature than much of the rest of the city. The well-established southwest has the highest average home prices in the city.
Several highlights are worth noting in this part of town, the foremost being The Broadmoor Hotel, a 5-star luxury resort. World-class dining, recreation and shopping are available throughout The Broadmoor complex.
The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is also a popular destination in the southwest. Breathtaking mountain scenery combined with more than 750 animals from around the world - including 30 endangered species - makes visiting our local zoo a worthwhile experience on several levels. The zoo operates without local tax support and provides recreation, education, conservation and scientific facilities to the area.
NORAD - the North American Aerospace Defense Command - has its main technical facility at the Cheyenne Mountain Operations Center in the southwest. NORAD is a bi-national United States and Canadian organization responsible for aerospace warning and control for North America. NORAD is also known for tracking Santa every Christmas Eve.
The World Arena is the premier sports and entertainment venue in the Pikes Peak region, and it is home to many popular sporting events, concerts, and live entertainment.
Cheyenne Mountain School District 12 - one of the best school districts in the city - and Harrison School District Two serve the southwest.
