The Voice's View on Flying Horse

Flying Horse is meant to be The Broadmoor of the north, combining luxury, community and recreation into a seemingly all-inclusive neighborhood. The architecture, free time options, and championship golf course all make Flying Horse the premier neighborhood of the north. The developers spent a lot of effort and time looking at Italian architecture the stucco roofing, for example to develop an authentic Italian feel for the homes. You have everything here: a comprehensive community center offering indoor and outdoor pools and tennis courts, an aerobic gym, lots of parks and open space all within walking distance. The location is incredible, highlighting beautiful land, great value, and authentic community.

Flying Horse is by far the best investment in Colorado Springs in terms of appreciation, which is incredible here. The average appreciation for the last five years has been between 15-20%, which is huge. Base prices range from $355,000-$650,000. Homes here a great investment and an even better living choice. If people have money in Colorado Springs, they will live here. Period.

Flying Horse is located in the north end of Colorado Springs off of North Gate Boulevard and Highway 83. It is situated on the northern end of the Colorado Springs New Homes area.


Flying Horse Builders

Classic Homes is the developer of Flying Horse and a local home builder, which gives them an opportunity to invest in the land in Colorado Springs, throughout which they are currently building in 14 communities. They offer very unique designs and floor plans, and theyre open to customization. Finished basements come standard in Classic Homes. They work hard, listen to their customers needs, and back up their quality and workmanship with a great 8-year structural warranty. They just opened a great custom homes site in Flying Horse with backing to the golf course. Base prices for Classic Homes in Flying Horse range from $355,000-$475,000.

Keller Homes is a great local custom builder. They have showed their presence in Flying Horse the last few years with a great range of ranch and 2-story homes, which the locals of Colorado Springs absolutely fell in love with. They have a few more homes left in Flying Horse, where their base price ranges from $428,000-$501,000.

Vantage Homes has a great reputation as a national builder. They have mastery in their ranch floor plans that is absolutely amazing, along with high-quality homes with 10-year structural warranties. They boast great customer satisfaction based on customer-completed surveys. They are proud builder of BuiltGreen and Energy Star homes, offering energy-efficient furnaces and double-paned windows, which can save consumers about 15-25% on energy bills. Base prices for Vantage Homes in Flying Horse range from $425,000-$602,000.

Schools/districts

Discovery Canyon Campus is the official academic campus of Flying Horse. It is located in a natural canyon at the north end of the community and is an affiliate of Academy School District 20. Plans include student capacities of 600 for elementary school, 1,000 for middle school, and 1,200 for high school.

Discovery Canyon is one of the top reasons why families are moving to Flying Horse. The campus is within walking distance of all Flying Horse homes and emphasizes a math and science curriculum. If you have children, you just cannot beat that.

As of August 2007, the campus was open to grades K-8. Grades 9-12 are scheduled to open progressively through 2011.

The Classical Academy is District 20's charter school. It has three campuses and is the largest K-12 charter school in Colorado with more than 2,600 students. Their emphasis on learning through observation, narration, dialog and hands-on activity has helped them to consistently place high on academy scoring tests.


Things To Do

Parks/open space

Barefoot Park, located in the Village of Syrah in Flying Horse, includes a large playing field, playground equipment and an in-line hockey arena. Frog's Leap Park will be located in Saratoga, a Flying Horse subdivision, and will be a five-acre park.

Dining

Residents in the north part of town have the opportunity to enjoy these excellent dining experiences: 3 Margaritas, Elephant Bar, Flying W Ranch, Jun Japanese Restaurant, Mollica's Italian Market and Deli and The Royal Ballroom.

Entertainment

There are several world-class Colorado ski resorts within 2 hours of Colorado Springs. Residents in this part of town also have quick access to these great entertainment experiences: Downtown Colorado Springs, Colorado Springs World Arena, IMAX and Cinemark 16 Theatre, Colorado Springs Sky Sox baseball and The Western Mining Museum.

Shopping

Flying Horse plans to open commercial facilities within the community over time. Until then, there are many shopping opportunities for residents - all within 10-15 minutes away - including: Chapel Hills Mall, The Promenade Shops at Briargate, Home Depot, Lowe's, Wal-Mart, Target, King Soopers and Safeway.

Recreation

The Club at Flying Horse is "an exclusive athletic Club and Spa, including a private 18-hole championship signature golf course" and includes personal training services, an indoor basketball court and an extensive aquatics area. Mark Colorado Springs as one of the most active and fit cities in the United States thanks to places like these: The United States Air Force Academy, The Santa Fe Trail, Fox Run Regional Park, Garden of the Gods and the Briargate YMCA.
