Hey Colorado Springs New Homes area residents, mark your calendars and get your candles ready -- Earth Hour takes place tomorrow night, Saturday, March 29, from 8-9 p.m.

Earth Hour is an event created by the World Wildlife Fund wherein "millions of people around the world [make] a statement about climate change by turning off [their] lights" for an hour from 8-9 p.m. in each local time zone. According to Earth Hour US and The CSBJ:

- "more than 100 cities across North America will participate"

- Earth Hour began in Sydney, Australia, last year

- in that hour, "It was estimated to have cut Sydney's electricity consumption between 2.1 percent and 10.2 percent...with as many as 2.2 million people participating"

Now, there are not 2.2 million people in Colorado Springs, cleary, but we still have the chance to participate and cut our city's electricity consumption significantly, even if it's only for an hour tomorrow night. Meanwhile, check out this video for more information:

Have a great weekend,

Brian Wilson

Colorado Springs New Homes To Live and LaunchToday CNN Money released its list of 100 Best Places to Live and Launch 2008, and I am pleased to share with you that Colorado Springs ranked 28th!

The idea behind "to live and launch" is basically this: a city is not only a great place to live but also a great place in which to start a business, or, as CNN Money put it, a city that offers "the best balance of business amenities and a high quality of life."

The Colorado Springs New Homes area is a great place to live, and, thanks in large part to our well-established military and aerospace presence, it is also a great place for start-up businesses to find success. Of course, if you're familiar with our blog and the neighborhood profiles we've been posting lately, you also know Colorado Springs is still growing and continues to offer great new homes for all those entrepreneurs eager to launch their businesses!

Colorado Springs New Homes A Stellar TreatThe Colorado Springs New Homes area is in for a stellar treat tonight when "as many as three spacecraft will be visible on the city's southwest horizon."

The international space station and the European Automated Transfer Vehicle are guaranteed to make an appearance in tonight's sky, showing up around 7:56 p.m. and staying visible for about five minutes. According to The Gazette, the craft will orbit 240 miles above our planet. A space shuttle could also make an appearance if it "misses the landing window."

The article isn't quite clear, but the basic gist I get from it is that there is going to be some docking activity for the vehicles, and the fact they will show up in our sky is just a matter of chance. Regardless, tonight's brief five-minute show is worth catching, as something like this rarely happens. Look for the spacecraft to show up between Pikes Peak and Cheyenne Mountain.
