Colorado Springs New Homes: Tax Rebate Update

- "Most people who pay taxes or earn at least $3,000, including through Social Security or veterans' disability benefits" - "Singles making more than $75,000 and couples with income topping $150,000" will get smaller checks - overall, the checks will range from $300 to $1,200 and will go to "millions of people" People must complete their 2007 tax return before they are eligible to receive rebates, however. The benefit here is obvious, although I rather like the way the AP put it: Congress, Bush, the Federal Reserve and Wall Street are hoping the money will burn such a hole in people's pockets that they won't be able to resist spending it. And the spending is supposed to give an energizing jolt to a national economy that is in danger of toppling into a recession if it hasn't already. So, if you are wanting to get a little extra money just to spend it, make sure you file your taxes. Or, better yet, I imagine many people will use this to either help pay off debt or invest in something a little less fleeting than "burn-a-hole-in-your-pocket" spending. And yes, I do perhaps echo the sarcasm of the AP excerpt, as I hope not everyone will spend the rebates on candy and comic books. Brian Wilson Meta Data |
