Courtesy of Centura Health with thanks from Colorado Springs New HomesHere's a cool look at the new St. Francis Medical Center, which is set to open in six months over at Powers and Woodmen in the Colorado Springs New Homes area (summarized material based on this recent article from The Gazette).

- The 350,000-square-foot cross-shaped hospital expands across 45 acres. It is currently about 85 percent complete and will cost around $207 million when all is said and done. The campus also will include two medical office buildings.

- The hospital will have five patient floors and nearly 800 employees. There will be 158 patient beds and a birth center with 25 neonatal bed units. The birth center lobby will feature a statue of Madonna and child, several other Catholic tradition elements will grace the hospital, including a "13-by-7-foot stained glass window, originally installed in the old St. Francis Hospital in 1903." There will also be an additional $1 million in new artwork throughout the hospital.

- Patients will be treated to 26-inch flat-screen TVs in their rooms along with many windows and views of nature. There are also many safety and energy-friendly features throughout the hospital.

Along with Memorial Hospital North, up here in town at Briargate Parkway and Union, and Pikes Peak Regional Hospital by Woodland Park, this will be the third hospital in the Colorado Spring New Homes area to open in the past year. With our population growth and family-oriented city environment, I know these hospitals are extremely important and valuable to our community. The new hospital alone is expected to "initially bring in $260 million in annual gross revenue," so these hospitals are also great for our economy. I also think hospitals can be very fine examples of architecture and enhance the overall feelings of security in a community. So we look forward to the opening of another great hospital in the St. Francis Medical Center later this year.
