In our continuing coverage of the Fort Carson-Piñon Canyon expansion, The Gazette reported this week "the Army is examining options for its proposed expansion of the Piñon Canyon Maneuver Site," meaning the original plans are not set in stone. This isn't surprising to me, especially considering the Opposition Coalition that has since been formed. I don't know if the opposition has directly affected the decision-making process; the article doesn't say. Either way, officials are currently proposing a 100,000-acre expansion instead of a 418,000-acre expansion. Take a look at this map (PDF) for a better idea of what's currently being proposed.

For those unfamiliar with the situation, here's the story so far:

- 12/21/07: Colorado Springs New Homes: Fort Carson boost

- 01/08/08: Colorado Springs New Homes: Construction Industry, Fort Carson

- 02/06/08: Colorado Springs New Homes: Fort Carson, Piñon Canyon

Stay tuned...
