Colorado Springs New Homes: If a Blog Falls in the Woods... A lot of real estate blogs make it seem like comments are more important than the actual blog posts, whether through being more socially-focused or slightly controversial, but at my Colorado Springs New Homes blog I have received all of two comments in the past three months. Yes, that's right...two. And if I include all the sympathy comments from my mom, it would still only be...two. And I'm blogging every day!

At Inman I had the chance to hear Teresa Boardman and Jay Thompson talk about this very idea: Is it a bad thing to not get comments? Because let's face it - comments are a blogger's natural high; what a great feeling knowing someone has something to say about something you wrote! So if you're only riding that wave once or twice every quarter, are you a bad blogger? The answer is NO.

"A lot of people think that if they don't get comments on a blog, they're not writing a good enough post. That is so not true," Teresa said. "It is a certain type of people that leave comments on blogs, and it is a very small percentage."

If I were really concerned about how many comments I received, I probably would have stopped blogging a while ago. But the reason I blog is so I can constantly provide my audience - you - with practical information about the Colorado Springs New Homes market. So I know I am doing a good job because I have remained loyal to my intentions and my readers by providing content every day.

And Jay's comments are still ringing in my ear: "Don't lose focus. It's not about the comments."

Heck, I'll comment!

Comments *are* nice, but they are by no means what makes (or breaks) a blog. Take a peak at Seth Godin's blog -- his readership is astronomical, he's linked to dozens (hundreds?) of times a day. And he doesn't even allow comments.

By my stats (granted, it's only one blog and not a ton of traffic, but it's respectable levels) only about 1 in 100 visitors ever leave a comment. A LOT of people never leave a comment.

One thing you may want to do Brian, have Mary or someone at RSSPieces check to see how your ping/trackbacks are set up. I got a ping back from the link on your RISMedia post, but not from here. Linking back to other blogs will help your readership increase, which in turn will increase the chances of comments and more importantly your blogs "reach". If it's not sending pings, people likely won't know you ever linked to them.

That's it, you get it. Keep it up!

Hi Brian,
I have found that the most comments that I get on my blog are from other bloggers. For the most part, a home buyer/seller is going to read what you have to write with little to no input. This is to be expected and (like Jay said) It is about the consumer - not the comments. :) If I want comments, I write on blogger-blogger focused sites.
