Colorado Springs New Homes: Forthcoming Solar Energy Benefits Democratic lawmakers are working on "a slew of bills" that would benefit both Colorado Springs New Homes area residents and the environment if passed. According to a recent Rocky Mountain News article, "Legislation is in the pipeline that would offer rebates to electric customers across the state who install solar systems into their homes," among other things. The bill is also designed to:

- give customers the chance to sell unused solar electricity back to utility companies

- encourage state regulators to regard offers for "large-scale solar power plants" even though this may cost more than commonplace coal or gas power plants

- focus more on renewable energy use rather than foreign oil, thereby reducing power costs in the long run

(Read the entire article for a more in-depth explanation of the bills and their likely impacts.)

As an example, a certain bill offers "a $2-per-watt rebate for installation of a home solar system." So this is good for the Colorado Springs New Homes area for several reasons: 1) conversion to renewable energy means reduction in pollutants, 2) rewards for residents using solar energy means lower energy costs, 3) introduction of a solar industry means job creation.

All these benefits point to an increase of strength in our local economy; furthermore, home values with solar systems will increase in value and also benefit the homeowners as they receive rebates. So these bills, if passed, seem poised to benefit the Colorado Springs New Homes area in significant ways, and the long term effects of conversion to solar energy cannot be understated either.
