The Voice's View on The City of Fountain Area

The City of Fountain area is a thriving residential community located about ten miles south of Colorado Springs. It includes the communities of Fountain, Widefield and Security and offers very easy access to Powers Boulevard and the Fountain-Fort Carson exit of I-25. Fountain is somewhat a military town due to the presence of Fort Carson, the major Army military base. Peterson and Schriever Air Force Bases are both within a 20-minute drive. Fountain has been honored by the New York Times as the Millennium City and has also been honored as an All-American City. It offers both country and city living, all with a small-town feel. These communities in Fountain are ideal for military buyers.


Fountain Neighborhoods and Builders

Freedom Heights is built by Aspen View Homes, a branch of Desert View Homes, whose home office is in El Paso, TX. They moved to Colorado Springs in 2004 to develop several Aspen View Homes communities here. The most popular model in Freedom Heights is the Crestone, a 1,800-square-foot model with 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths and an unfinished basement. Aspen View Homes in Freedom Heights range in size from 1,200 to 1,800 square feet with a base price ranging from $198,000 to $243,000.

Cross Creek is about ten minutes from Fort Carson and offers both single-family homes and townhomes. Pulte Homes is building affordable two-story townhomes in Cross Creek. They feature two-car garages and include all appliances. The Hawthorne model is the most popular here, offering 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths throughout 1,400 square feet. The prices for Pulte Homes townhomes in Cross Creek range from $180,000 to $202,000.

Legendary Homes is also building in Cross Creek. They are a local, family-owned company that has been in Colorado Springs for about 25 years. They successfully show their presence from north to south, showing good quality and integrity. They offer two-story homes with unfinished basements, elegant living rooms and spacious kitchens. Their famous model is the Sprucewood, featuring 2,200 square feet, 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. The price range for Legendary Homes in Cross Creek is $227,000 to $267,000 for homes ranging from 1,926 to 2,200 square feet in size.

Countryside North in Fountain is built by Journey Homes, a company whose growth is increasing in Colorado Springs. They build in Colorado and California in 12 different communities and have very affordable prices for first-time and move-up buyers. They offer more than 50 different floor plans. In Countryside North the most popular model is the Arizona, a great layout with 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths and 1,305 square feet; their homes also come with unfinished basements. Journey Homes in Countryside North range in size from 1,305 to 2,030 square feet, with prices ranging from $216,000 to $245,000.

Schools/districts

Things To Do

Parks/open space

Fountain is home to nearly a dozen parks including Metcalfe Park, Aga Park and Fountain Mesa Park. Residents will find plenty to do among the parks, which include playgrounds, trails, ball fields, volleyball and basketball courts, covered pavilions, fishing ponds and more.

Dining

Fountain offers several unique local restaurants including Chaps Bar & Grill, Coke's Diner, Cowboy Espresso and Papa Teddy's Old World Pizza. A 10-15 minute drive will bring residents to the Powers Corridor, which offers a great variety of popular restaurants including Old Chicago, Outback Steakhouse, Red Robin, Mimi's Café, Chick-fil-A, Chipotle, Cold Stone Creamery, Panera Bread, Wahoo's Fish Tacos and Chili's. Also in the mix are a few hidden gems including AI Sushi, Burger City, Leo's Pizzeria and Fox & Hound Restaurant.

Entertainment

Every Labor Day, the Fountain Fall Festival offers pancakes, parades, arts and crafts, tractor pulls and more. This one-day event is a great highlight of the Fountain calendar. A 10-15 minute drive will bring residents to the Powers Corridor, which gives residents the chance to enjoy movies at the Cinemark 16/IMAX. Minor league baseball is also in season during the spring and summer - fans can enjoy watching the Colorado Springs Sky Sox at Security Service Field. Residents also have easy access to the World Arena Event Center, which is about 15-20 minutes away on I-25 and often features some of the best athletic, musical and family-friendly displays of entertainment in the area.

Shopping

The closest shopping center is Mesa Ridge Shopping Center, with stores, groceries, services and restaurants all within 2 miles. The Citadel Mall is easily reached from nearby South Academy Boulevard. Residents may also venture to the nearby Powers Corridor (10-15 minutes away) to find some of the best shopping in Colorado Springs, all within a two-mile stretch. Stores include Best Buy, Super Target, CostCo, Whole Foods Market, Dick's Sporting Goods, Lowe's, J.C. Penney, Men's Wearhouse, Pier 1 imports, World Market, Office Max, GNC, PETsMART, Wild Oats Natural Marketplace and Staples.

Recreation

The City of Fountain offers several trails ranging in length from 0.3 to 1.3 miles. The Appletree Golf Course offers 18 holes of great golfing and great views of the Front Range. The Fountain Creek Nature Center includes wildlife exhibits and learning programs. The Fountain Valley YMCA offers intramural sports for all ages, exercise classes, a weight room and cardio equipment. The District 8 Sports/Pool Complex offers swimming for the whole family.
