Colorado Springs New Homes: Our city ranks top 100 in metro area employmentA new study released by the Brookings Institution Metropolitan Policy Program in Washington, D.C., carries significant implications for our Colorado Springs New Homes community. The study found that Colorado Springs ranks “82nd out of metro areas measured for employment in 2005,” according to The Gazette. Out of the 100 cities surveyed, Colorado Springs was reported to have created 290,869 total jobs and a gross domestic product of $21,354 (in millions), or exactly 10 percent of the state’s total GDP. According to The Gazette, however, the number of jobs in our city has fallen since 2000, when there were 292,067 jobs in the Springs.

What I would like to highlight here is not the fact that the number of jobs has decreased, but that we have still ranked in the top 100 metro areas measured for employment despite a slumping housing market. At Colorado Springs New Homes, we are determined to bring you good news in spite of bad news, and we are certain that optimism will help see us through hard times. Together, Colorado Springs and Denver account for:

• 63 percent of our state’s population

• 66 percent of the state’s jobs

• 71 percent of the state’s gross domestic product

The role we play in our state’s economy is extremely significant, even in spite of a decrease in numbers, and I want to personally thank you on behalf of Colorado Springs New Homes for the role you play in maintaining and improving our city’s economy.
